joie redux.

When I think about this session, there is so much I can’t take credit for.

From the setup to the execution, this day was just for the love of photography. In a little twist on how we do things, Lauren and I decidedly shot at different times and assisted during the rest. The styling, the lighting, the posing, the expressions…are all a product of people who feel alive creating something.

Lauren and I deliberately distanced ourselves from shooting in a studio a few years back because of how confining it felt. In this case, I can’t imagine photographing these any differently.

There is a hint of fashion, a hint of documentary, a hint of glamour….better yet, there is a piece of Joie, a piece of Lauren, and a piece of me in every one of these.

this is my dear friend allison.

she’s got a great smile and an even better laugh. while i was in cali last week we spent some time walking around venice beach…i brought my camera along and snapped a few shots of  her. we have a word, “hark”, in our group…we say it whenever we see something we like, when we say “hi” or “bye” and in general, it’s a term of endearment. it’s such a simple word with so much meaning. these images make me want to yell “hark!”

oFp. & shootsac lens bag.

while on a recent trip to sunny so-cal, i had the opportunity to play around with the new and *improved* shootsac lens bag…for those of you who are photographers you know all about the AMAZING-NESS that is shootsac. it’s a wonderful and a MUST HAVE bag when photographing any sort of event. we’ve photographed concerts, weddings, portrait & lifestyle sessions and everything in between and our “go-to” bag is always the shootsac. it allows you to the chance to shoot fast, change lens quick all without bulking you up, which lets be honest, is the LAST thing we want.

my wonderful friend allison lives near venice beach and we met up, walked around (laughed!) and shot for a little bit…the warm sun, awesome light and colorful art around every corner was such a welcomed change of scenery. i snagged a couple of quick images and was SO delighted to see one of the images featured in an email that went out today to all of the shootsac users! you see, they are launching a *NEW* version of the oh-so popular bag…with some new features that are going to make the bag even more genius and more useful (is that even possible?!)

:new features:

INTERCHANGEABLE COVERS…with POCKETS to hold keys, memory cards, chapstick, etc.

NEW designs for all you guys out there.

a new SWIVEL HOOK…no more tangled straps anymore.

WIDER lens pockets for easier access to lenses.

go over and check out the new bag, all the covers, accessories and the new products they have…you won’t be dissapointed! a big thank you to allison (more images to come from our fun little session soon!) and kim from shootsac!

joie.

i’ll be honest and up-front with you all…these images kind of *rock my world*. photographing a session in the studio is really something for me that is a little out of my comfort zone…but then again, it’s all about pushing past those fears and jumping in head first.

this is joie. she’s fearless, has a southern accent, and wears great glasses.

here are a few images from my time with joie in the studio.
